Since the launch of the Apple Watch Series 4 and watchOS 5, one of the functions that have attracted the most attention has been the possibility of performing a continuous electrocardiogram without the need for electrodes distributed throughout the body. In principle, this function was only available for devices purchased in the United States. However, references to the ECG have been found in the documentation referring to iOS 12.2. Apparently, the ECG function will be available soon in Europe for “Apple Watch Series 4 with watchOS 5.2 and paired with an iPhone 5s or later with iOS 12.2 or later.”

But in the notes referring to iOS 12.2 not only speaks of ” non-US regions “, making clear reference to the expansion of the electrocardiogram function outside of the US territory. There is also a reference to a CE certificate. This would mean that the technology would have been certified for use within the European Economic Area, which includes not only the European Union but also Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.
Therefore, although the ECG function in Europe is not currently available, it seems clear, taking into account the documentation found in iOS 12.2, that if we are going to be able to enjoy the electrocardiogram function, from our wrist if you have an Apple Watch Series Four.
Thus, with the rest of functions related to health, such as the warning before a fall the Apple Watch becomes a perfect ally to ensure our physical integrity and our health. Although, obviously, it would be best not to have to use these functions.
We hope to hear from the users of the ECG installation on their watches as soon as the watchOS 5.2 arrives, something that should happen throughout this week.
Recall that in the Apple Event on March 25 we could see the news in terms of services ( Apple News +, Apple Card, Apple Arcade ) of Cupertino. When it finished Apple released iOS 12.2 that comes with some interesting improvements.
