Disable account
This is not a permanent delete but besides a temporary fix. Doing this hides all of your comments, images, likes, and your profile until you activate it again. You can do that just by logging back in.
If you want to turn off your account, simply log into the full Instagram.com site in a browser as you can’t do it in the app. Initially, tap on your profile pic located in the top right corner and choose ‘Edit Profile’. Move all the way down and you’ll then find the choices to ‘Temporarily disable my account’.
Tap on it, choose one of the reasons for the question ‘Why are you turning off your account?’ and input your password.
Confirm by tapping on ‘Temporarily Disable Account’.
Delete account
If you want to remove your account, images, comments, and everything else, you must be aware that it’s permanent. You can’t reactivate a removed account, or else you can’t sign back up with the same name either.
Everything you’ve posted, commented, etc, on Instagram will be removed and can’t be removed. If you want to take this step, move to Instagram.com in a browser – it can’t be done using the app. Log in and move to the Delete Account Page. You can’t navigate there using the regular menus, so tap on the link to navigate there easily.
You’ll want to choose a reason and input your password. Once you’ve done so, you can tap the ‘Permanently remove my account’ option.
