Combining PDF’s With Preview
To merge PDFs on the Mac, initiate with two or more source files. Double-tap on the 1st file to open it in the Preview app. Make sure it is the default app for viewing PDF files in macOS. Also, if you’ve installed third-party software and Preview can’t open when you double-tap on a PDF, then forcefully open your files in Preview by right-tapping (or Control-tapping) on the files and choosing Open With > Preview.
Once you open the Preview and showing your first PDF file. Simply choose Edit > Insert > Page from File from the menu bar located at the screen top.
You’ll then view the same open/save dialog box appear to choose your file from. Simply use the box to navigate to your 2nd PDF file. Then choose it, and then tap the “Open” button located at the bottom-right corner.
The file and any pages with it will now seem in your PDF document. If you want to get an overview of the pages in your document simply choose View > Thumbnails from the menu bar.
However, a horizontal list of page thumbnails will seem on the left side of the Preview window. From here, you can simply tap on individual or groups of pages to tap and drag them into the required order.
If you want to remove a page, simply choose it from the Thumbnail list and press the Delete key on your keyboard. That’s all there is to it!
Also, remember that if you have the sidebar on when you head over to insert your PDF pages, you can simply control where the new pages land by just tapping a thumbnail from the sidebar. However, the Edit > Insert > Page from File command will then put what you add after whatever page you had selected. But it’s quite easy to move stuff around.
