Error 1962 – No Operating System Found – Fix
Before trying any advanced steps we have to check whether it’s a case of a faulty Hard disk or the SATA cable. In order to check if the hard disk is working or not, just connect it to another computer and verify. If you’re able to access it, if you’re able to then it’s not the case of the faulty Hard disk actually. However, if you’re still not able to access the hard disk on another PC then you have to replace your Hard disk.
Now you have to check if the SATA cable is at fault, just use another PC cable in order to check if the cable is faulty. If this is the case then simply buying another SATA cable might really fix the issue for you. Now that you have verified if it’s not the case of a faulty HDD or SATA cable then you can also continue to the below-listed steps.
Note: In order to try the below fixes you have to use Windows Installation or Recovery disc. So make sure you are ready with any one of them beforehand as well.
Run Automatic/Startup Repair | Error 1962
- You have to insert the Windows 10 bootable installation DVD and restart your PC.
- When prompted to Press any key in order to boot from CD or DVD, press any key to continue.
- Choose your language preferences, and then tap on Next. Click Repair your computer in the bottom-left.
- To select an option screen, just tap on Troubleshoot.
- On Troubleshoot screen, you need to tap on the Advanced option.
- On the Advanced options screen, just tap Automatic Repair or Startup Repair.
- Wait till the Windows Automatic/Startup Repairs are complete.
- Restart and you guys have successfully Fix Error 1962 No Operating System Found as well.
Set the correct boot order
You may be seeing the “Error 1962 No Operating System Found” as the boot order is not properly set. That means that the computer is trying to boot from another source. That doesn’t have an operating system thus failing to do that. In order to fix this issue, you have to set the Hard Disk as the top priority in the Boot order. Let’s see how you can set proper boot order:
- Whenever your computer starts (Before the boot screen or the error screen), repeatedly tap on the Delete or F1 or F2 key (Relying upon your computer’s manufacturer) in order to enter BIOS setup.
- When you are in BIOS setup select the Boot tab from the list of options as well.
- Now make sure that the computer Hard disk or SSD is all set as a top priority in the Boot order. If not then use up or down arrow keys in order to set the hard disk at the top. That means the computer will first boot from it instead of any other source.
- Once the above changes are done move to the Startup tab and then make the following changes:

- Tap on F10 in order to save and exit changes in the BIOS setup.
Run Diagnostic Test
If the above method weren’t helpful at all then there is also a chance that your hard disk might be damaged or corrupted. In any case, you have to replace your previous HDD or SSD along with a new one and install Windows again. However, before running to any conclusion, you must run a Diagnostic tool in order to check if you really have to replace HDD/SSD.
In order to run Diagnostics restart your PC and as the computer starts (before the boot screen). Tap on F12 key and when the Boot menu appears, highlight the Boot to Utility Partition option or the Diagnostics option and tap on entering in order to start the Diagnostics. This will automatically check all the hardware of your system and then will report back if any issue is found as well.
Enable UEFI Boot | Error 1962
Most UEFI firmware (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) either contains bugs or is misleading. This is due to the frequent evolution of the firmware that has made UEFI too complicated. The Error 1962 No Operating System Found seems to be caused via UEFI firmware. And when you reset or set the default value of UEFI it seems to fix the issue as well.
You guys have to configure CSM (Compatibility Support Module) to turn on if you want to boot to a legacy Operating System (OS). If you guys have recently upgraded your Windows installation then this setting is disabled via default. That disables the support for the older Operating System’s which in turn won’t let you boot to OS as well. Now be careful to set the UEFI as the first or only boot method (that is already the default value).
- Restart your PC and click F2 or DEL depending upon your PC in order to open Boot Setup.
- Head to the Startup tab and make the following changes:
Change Boot list option to UEFI Disable Load Legacy option ROM Enable Secure boot
- Then, click F10 to Save and Exit the boot setup.
Repair Install Windows 10 | Error 1962
If none of the above solutions work for you then you can make sure that your HDD is fine. However, you may be seeing the error “Error 1962 No Operating System Found” as the operating system or the BCD information on the HDD was somehow erased as well. Well, in this case, you can also try to Repair install Windows. However, if this also fails then the only solution left is just to install a new copy of Windows (Clean Install).
Restore your PC using Recovery Disc
- Just put in the Windows installation media or Recovery Drive or System Repair Disc and choose your language preferences, and then tap on Next
- Tap on Repair your computer at the bottom.
- Now select Troubleshoot and then Advanced Options.
- At last, click on “System Restore” and follow on-screen instructions in order to complete the restore.
- Restart your PC and this step may also have Fix Error 1962 No Operating System Found.
