How to Enable Dark Mode in Google Chrome on Android

  1. Update your Google Chrome app to the latest version (74.0.3729.112 or later) or to the Play Store Chrome Beta app.
  2. Type chrome://flags in the address bar.
  3. Press enter.
  4. A new window will open, which has a long list of features and experimental settings of Google Chrome.
  5. Now look for “Dark Mode” in the search section and open the form.
  6. Tap “Default” and select “Enabled”.
  7. Now you can see a message to restart the browser with the new settings applied. Tap to restart the Google Chrome app.
  8. You have successfully enabled dark mode settings in your Chrome app. Go to “Settings” and activate the dark mode.

Congratulations, you have successfully enabled the dark mode for Google Chrome on your Android smartphone. The different elements of Chrome, such as the home screen, 3-point menu, settings, etc., will now appear in dark color.

Enable dark mode in website app elements

However, please note that this feature does not make any changes to the website elements. For this, you need to enable other settings. Follow the steps below:

  1. Update the Google Chrome app to the latest version (74.0.3729.112 or later) or the Chrome Beta app from the Play Store.
  2. Type chrome://flags in the address.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. A new window will open, which has a long list of features and experimental settings of Google Chrome.
  5. Search the option “Android web contents dark mode”.
  6. Simply enable this setting as before.
  7. Restart the app and have fun.

Now you have correctly enabled the dark mode of the entire app for the Chrome mobile application. Note that this obscure web content mode is independent and will not be disabled even if you disable the normal dark mode. It also causes conflicts with the website’s multimedia content. Therefore, it is not advisable to use the dark mode of Web content.
