FromSoftware will create an open world “focused on what they are good at”.
Elden Ring, the new great promise of FromSoftware, went to E3 2019 with only a cinematic trailer, so we must pay attention to its developers to catch any detail on more tangible material. Luckily, Hidetaka Miyazaki (director of the game) has been talking about it recently: a few days ago he compared the gameplay to Dark Souls, and in a new interview with IGN he informs us about the world in which he lives.
According to the creative, Elden Ring will be an open world game because we will have a great area to explore on horseback. This decision has a great impact on the gameplay, but it does not mean that it is fundamentally a game like Assassin’s Creed or GTA. In fact, it will turn so much into combat that it will not even pose settlements and settlements to visit during our trip. Surely we should imagine something more in the line of Shadow of the Colossus, for example.
Does this mean we will not see ruins or similar locations to explore? No. We will continue to have dungeons, defiant enemies and bosses as we have seen so far, but the world will not have a structure as close as the previous ones (almost like a Metroidvania) but rather large and open. “Creating a new type of game is a great challenge for us” recognizes Miyazaki. “If in addition to that we added villages, it would be too much, so we decided to create an open-world game focused on what we are good at.”
