Internet speed is not something to compromise on. The moment you wake up, your day starts with checking emails, browsing websites, streaming Netflix, and gaming online. If you are not busy with these activities, someone in your family might be busy doing the same stuff online. Alternatively, if you have a smart home, all your smart devices are dependent on the internet.
Internet speed is important for all of us without any doubt. However, at times we all face speed issues, which can go bad or worse if we are in the middle of some activity. The quick solution is to take help from the ISP you have subscribed to. In our experience, we have tried and tested different customer services to resolve the issue. And by far, we found charter customer service to be the most friendly of all. At least they put their efforts into resolving the issue without being rude whether you want assistance regarding Charter bill pay or any connectivity issue.
In case, you are facing speed issues even after CS has cleared everything on the backend, the time is to look at your router. Most people are not clear whether a router increases internet speed or not. The fact is that internet speed depends heavily on the router as much as it does on the ISP.
Here are some of the fixes you can use with your router to speed up your internet. Stay tuned and keep reading because we know how annoying it is to call customer service often.

Reposition Your Router
If you have locked your router in a bookshelf or somewhere in a closed room with a lot of walls and no windows, you will have to reposition your router. This would heavily affect the signals resulting in slower speed and frequent disconnection. Especially, if you are a gamer or a hardcore streamer, things are not going to be ideal.
The position of your router depends on your house’s structure. The ideal placement would be to install your router in the middle of the hallway or the living room. If you cannot find a flat surface to place your router, you can mount your router on a wall. In case you are worried about mounting, your router comes with holes in the back to hang it anywhere in the room.
Replace Your Router
When was the last time you changed your router? Probably many years ago – but keep in mind that there has been a lot of advancement in router technology lately. Some of the outdated routers can’t handle the data inflow and outflow owing to older technology.
Replace your router with a new one. If you are not a hardcore gamer, you might come across different routers ranging from $50 to $150. However, if you are very much into gaming, then you might need to invest more than $200. Some of the best routers for gamers include TP-Link Archer AX11000, Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC5300, Asus RT-AC86U AC2900 Router, Linksys Max-Stream AC4000, and Netgear Wi-Fi 6 Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR1000.
Restart Your Router
In most cases, routers are connected to the electrical outlet permanently and no one ever removes it in ages. It is fine to connect your router to someplace where no one touches it. However, sometimes your router needs a break too.
If you are facing slow speed or throttling issues, try unplugging the router from the electrical outlet and wait for at least half a minute. Now put the adapter in an electrical outlet and wait for the lights to reach an idle state. Once they are in an idle state, you can enjoy high-speed internet as it was before. However, if things are still not working, move on to the next step.

Connect to Ethernet Directly
We all need wireless internet to browse, stream, and game without tangling ourselves in a whole bunch of cables. However, sometimes things are not on our side and we need to compromise on our likings. Don’t worry, just connect your device directly with the Ethernet cable connected from the back of the router.
If you are in the middle of some game on your Xbox or binge-watching Netflix seasons on your laptop or smart TV, you can continue doing things without trouble. However, for some devices like smartphones and tablets, you might not be able to do because of the unavailability of an Ethernet port.
Try Wi-Fi Extender
You might have purchased a new router a year ago, but signals are still weak. If you are living in a big home, weak signals are going to disturb you often. The reason is that most Wi-Fi routers cannot transmit strong signals in large spaces.
Don’t worry, you can buy a Wi-Fi extender that won’t cost you more than $50. The extender will help you replicate Wi-Fi signals and cover a larger areas without leaving any blind spots. By bringing a Wi-Fi extender, you will be able to connect to Wi-Fi from any part of your home. A normal Wi-Fi extender can cover an area of up to 300sq feet, which is good enough for an average home.
