Like other Samsung flagship Android, it also comes in two various chipset variants. However, one with Exynos Chipset and another with Snapdragon chipset. Also, rooting Exynos powered Note 9 is quite easier due to bootloader can be unlocked very easily. But in Snapdragon-powered Note 9, just the SM-N9600 can be rooted as it comes as an unlocked bootloader by default. Also, it is not possible for the other Snapdragon model SM-N960U to root.

- Download Samsung USB Drivers and Install on PC
- Install Latest Odin Flash Tool
- Download TWRP Recovery
- Download Root File
- N9_S9_Root_for_OEM_issue_devices_V.zip (Exynos)
- Download Magisk.zip for Note 9 Snapdragon
How to Root Samsung Note 9 Exynos
If you are the owner of Samsung Note 9 powered with Exynos then follow this section to root your Android. Firstly, download TWRP Recovery and then flash a zip file to root Samsung Note 9 Exynos.
How to Install TWRP on Samsung Note 9 Exynos
Follow the steps carefully to install TWRP on Samsung Note 9 Exynos:
Step 1:
Firstly, open Settings on your Samsung Note 9.
Step 2:
Move to About phone > Software Information. Then tap continuously on build number until it says now ‘you are a developer’.
Step 3:
Head over to Settings and then open Developer Options. Then turn on OEM Unlock. Then it will ask to do a factory reset so tap ok to format the phone. Also, check the OEM unlock after formatting.
Step 4:
Once you have done formatting sign-in on the device and carry on with the procedure.
Step 5:
Switch off your phone completely.
Step 6:
Now boot into download mode (hit and hold Vol down + Bixby & connect the USB cable). It will provide a warning screen.
Step 7:
Now hit Vol Up button and it will go in downloading mode.
Step 8:
Also, extract the Odin zip file then run Odin Tool (Odin3.exe) on the computer.
Step 9:
It will display a blue color in the ID: COM section. If not displaying then your device is not connected properly. In this situation, download the Samsung Drivers.
Step 10:
In Odin Tool, tap on AP and select the TWRP image (twrp-3.2.3-0-crownlte_UNOFFICIAL.tar.md5) that you downloaded later.
Step 11:
Hold down Volume Up and then tap on start. You can immediately hold the Bixby button. When the screen goes off immediately hold the Power button until it boots into TWRP recovery. Make sure you don’t release any button until it boots into recovery.
Step 12:
In TWRP recovery, choose “Keep Read Only”. Also, move to Wipe > Format Data & type ‘yes’ and tap ok.
Step 13:
Also, tap on the Home icon and move to Reboot > Recovery.
Step 14:
Also, connect the phone with the computer and then copy the root file in the phone memory. If you are can’t copy, remember to copy the file in a flash drive and then connect it to the phone via OTG
Step 15:
You are now ready to Root Samsung Note 9. Make sure you do not reboot into the system.
Root Samsung Note 9 Exynos
Follow the steps carefully to root Samsung Note 9 Exynos:
Step 1:
Firstly, in TWRP recovery moves to Install and then choose the copied Root File (N9_S9_Root_for_OEM_issue_devices_V.zip).
Step 2:
Then swipe the slider to initiate flashing the file.
Step 3:
Tap on Next > Agree & Next > Next. Also, select “Proceed with ROM flasher and Multitool” and then choose “Patch for OEM issue” and tap Next.
Step 4:
Also, select “Root with Magisk” and tap Next > Run Now.
Step 5:
Now tap on Next and then Check “Reboot your device now” and tap on Finish.
Step 6:
In TWRP recovery tap on Reboot and then choose ‘Do not Install’.
Step 7:
This will also boot your device into System. Also, Root Samsung Note 9 Exynos Model.
Step 8:
Install Magisk Manager if it not already installed.
Now you have rooted phone and also you can try the custom ROMs. But make sure you will not receive Official OTA updates after unlocking the bootloader.
How to Root Samsung Note 9 Snapdragon (SM-N9600)
The section is for those having Samsung Note 9 Snapdragon SM-N9600. So you just follow the steps to Root Samsung Note 9 Snapdragon Model. This will not support SM-N960U Models.
Install TWRP Recovery on Samsung Note 9 Snapdragon
Follow the steps to install TWRP recovery on Samsung Note 9 Snapdragon:
Step 1:
Firstly, Open Settings on your Samsung Note 9.
Step 2:
Move to About phone > Software Information and then tap continuously on build number message appears says now ‘you are a developer’.

Move back to Settings and then open Developer Options. Also, turn on OEM Unlock. Once you open it will ask to do a factory reset so tap ok to format the phone. Also, check the OEM unlock after formatting.

Switch off your phone completely.
Step 6:
Also, boot into download mode. A warning screen appears.
Step 7:
Also, hit the Vol Up button and it will move in downloading mode.
Step 8:
Then extract the Odin zip file and run Odin Tool (Odin3.exe) on the computer.
Step 9:
It will display a blue color in the ID: COM section. If not displaying then your device is not connected properly. In this situation, Install the Samsung Drivers.
Step 10:
In Odin Tool, tap on AP and select the TWRP image (TWRP_3.2.3-0_N9600_beta3.tar.md5) that you downloaded earlier.
Step 11:
Unmark Auto Reboot under options.
Step 12:
Tap on Start and then wait for the success message.
Step 13:
Also, reboot into TWRP recovery (Hit & hold Vol Up + Bixby + Power button simultaneously).
Step 14:
In TWRP recovery, choose “Keep Read Only”. Move to Wipe > Format Data & input ‘yes’ and tap ok.
Step 15:
Install Custom Kernel & Magisk.zip on the computer.
Step 16:
Again connect your phone with the computer and copy both zip files in the phone memory. However, if you can’t copy, then make sure to copy the file in a flash drive and attach it to the phone via OTG.
Step 17:
You are now ready to Root Samsung Note 9. Make sure you do not reboot into the system.
Root Samsung Note 9 Snapdragon
Follow the steps carefully to root Samsung Note 9 Snapdragon:
Step 1:
At first, In TWRP recovery move to Install and choose the custom kernel (boot.img).
Step 2:
Then Swipe the slider to flash the custom kernel.
Step 3:
Now tap on the Home icon and move again to Install but this time choose the Magisk.zip
Step 4:
Also, swipe the slider to flash Magisk. And with this, you have rooted your phone.
Step 5:
Also, move to Reboot > System.
Step 6:
Make sure to set up the device and Install Magisk Manager if it not already installed.
Now you have rooted the Samsung Note 9 Snapdragon SM-N9600. However, you can now use apps that need root permission.
