A layout contains a name, date stamp, and time an icon count i.e., the total number of icons was on the desktop screen when the layout was restored and an ID. Restore:
If you want to restore/recover it. Simply execute the app and choose the profile. Now head over to Edit>Restore Icon Layout and your layout will be recovered quickly. There are some exceptions though. If you’ve, for instance, removing an item from your desktop, the app can’t recover it. It might impact the icon arrangement if you’ve set them to make a grid automatically. If you know you’ve erased an item from the desktop that was present when you stored an icon layout, you should then turn snap to grid off and then recover the icon layout.
ReIcon doesn’t want to be installed so ensure you don’t leave the app somewhere you might mistakenly remove it as it saves the profile in the same folder that it executes from. Simply moves it to a safe location before you use it to store and restore icon layouts.
The app can work only for the desktop icon layout but not for the files in folders. The files in folders lack a ‘layout’. They’re arranged by different sorting criteria so the app can’t work there.

DesktopOK is another amazing software when it comes to saving the positions of desktop icons. It can save many layouts and can also automatically store desktop icon layouts. You can also configure it to save desktop icon layout automatically every 15 minutes, every hour, every 7 hours, or every day.
